Controlled Mobility: Building Strength with Resistance Bands with Sara Basile

Boston yoga teacher Sara Basile uses resistance bands to build strength in asana yoga poses.

Many popular methods of yoga prioritize gaining flexibility with little attention to the structural strength-building components that keep our joints healthy. So, where does strength come into the equation of asana? The strength component can be challenging to locate, especially in a flow style practice, without any added resistance.

In this workshop we will apply external resistance to complement a vinyasa practice.

Sara Basile will lead a vinyasa style flow while exploring the use of resistance bands in various postures and what they can teach about each pose. The inclusion of resistance bands will not only create more strength in the body, but will also assist in facilitating active range of motion (ROM).

ROM is how we can work our muscles at end range engagement to begin to enter postures that we once may have not felt “flexible enough” to get into in the past. Expect to challenge yourself in a way that furthers your understanding of how to safely move from shape to shape. This workshop is open to all levels who have a basic understanding of flow-style yoga.

In the past, as a flow-based teacher and practitioner, Sara heavily relied on her flexibility in practice. With time this led to pain and discomfort in her joints. Sara knew if she wanted to continue an active asana practice and lifestyle, something needed to drastically change in her yoga practice. Through the use of resistance bands, Sara gained a better understanding of the nuanced muscle engagement necessary in each pose and was able to heal her repetitive stress injuries. Now she is excited to share this information with you

HYBRID EVENT | This hybrid workshop will be both in-person and via live-stream. The recording will be available for 48hrs for those livestream registrants who do not sign in to the livestream.
