ZAQUIA MAHLER SALINAS (she/her/ella)
I began my relationship with yoga in 2007 - my practice has been an invaluable anchor and teacher in my life, and supported my wellbeing throughout my career as a dance artist ever since.
While my entry point to yoga was power vinyasa, my practice and teaching has evolved to include a wide array of yoga lineages, and calls on my studies of anatomy, somatic practices, and a range of movement traditions. In addition to certification as a 500 Hour ERYT, I hold a BA and MFA in Dance and Creative Practice. Originally from San Diego, I spent more than a decade teaching yoga and dance, performing, choreographing, building community and contributing to the arts ecosystem in California. I relocated to Boston in January 2024 and am enjoying the opportunity to learn from and contribute to the community here.
My philosophy about yoga classes isn’t any different than my philosophy about dance class or art making: our experiences are lived through our physical form, and the more we can develop an honest relationship with ourselves, the more we can show up wholeheartedly for our communities in this life we make together. I am passionate about sharing tools to cultivate more of that in our world. Underlying everything I do is an interest in transformation, awakening, and empowerment.
What You Can Expect From My Classes
To cultivate a deep relationship with our embodied experience, whether it is dancing, yoga, meditation, or making a sandwich, is a radical act! There is a profound skillfulness that can develop from practicing listening to and working with our physical experiences, and my classes are very much about that. With an anatomical and energetic focus, I encourage commitment to the moment and willingness to dig in from a place of curiosity. I am interested in the union of rigor and generosity; we will use the breath and mindfulness to activate and refine sensational awareness, focus, and equanimity.
