SACHA MENDOZA (she/her)
Until finding myself in a warm, welcoming yoga studio as an undergrad in Boston, I thought all forms of movement were just different ways to shape your body and control your weight. Inclusive yoga teachers helped me expand my views to realize that yoga is not just exercise, but something much greater that integrates mind, body, spirit, and soul. My yoga practice has helped me discover and embrace my identity as a curvy, vibrant, First Generation American with bold Indo-Caribbean heritage and love of many cultures. Learning to stand authentically and proudly on the mat has given me the courage to do the same in other roles in my career and life.
After many years of wishing for more diversity in the Boston yoga community, I decided to be the change I wanted to see in the world. By being a yoga teacher who doesn't try to "fit the mold", I hope to show my students that they belong, just as they are. I completed my 200 hours under the guidance of Ame Wren and Ben Chused through Boston Yoga School, and will be forever grateful to them and other teachers who have guided me on the yogic path.
What You Can Expect From My Classes
I weave together traditional salutations and variations of salutations with a focal point, which changes weekly. We will link postures and breath to “flow” with steady rhythm, and then practice a few more complex asanas that relate to our theme. I use metaphors to make asana playful and vivid, and also often teach with Sanskrit. Most classes include instrumental music, and always end with a guided meditation and aromatherapy.
