CASSIE MARANTZ (she/her)
I was introduced to yoga in 2005, but the practice did not come easily. I struggled in poses and wanted to jump off the mat during Savasana. Yet asana functioned as medicine immediately, alleviating chronic pain from an earlier life in athletics and giving me an unfamiliar sense of ease in my body. As I dove into meditation and philosophy, the plot thickened. Yoga became a place for me to cultivate more compassion, strength, and grace throughout my life.
I believe that the yoga practice can enable more conscious, useful relationships — with our bodies, ourselves, and each other. With an attitude of curiosity, we can examine, unravel, and adapt our own unique patterns. In yoga, I do not believe one size fits all. I also find that lightheartedness and a sense of humor is essential to tackle this task of being human (on the mat and off).
I have been teaching yoga since 2012, and it is a gift to be of service to others. I received my 200-RYT at South Boston Yoga and my 300-RYT through Boston Yoga School with Ame Wren and Daniel Max. My teaching is influenced by multiple lineages and movement styles, including active flow, alignment-based, and restorative modalities. I have a BA in Psychology & Brain Sciences from Dartmouth College, and these studies also inform my teaching; I am fascinated by the interconnections among mind, body, and energy. In addition to group classes, I specialize in private and small group clientele and learn so much from my students. I am extraordinarily grateful to all of my teachers, on and off the mat, and will always be a student first.
One of the most unexpected gifts of yoga – a practice that appears so individual – is the community. The people I’ve met on the mat have changed my life. I am humbled to be a part of the JPCY community: practitioners and a studio that promote access, equity, and the well-being of the greater world.
What You Can Expect From My Classes
I use clear language and a unique voice that often keeps it light. I offer a supportive environment that fosters personal agency. I balance challenge and structure with ease and acceptance. My mixed levels classes have a slow build, a dynamic and strong flow, followed by an easy and sweet landing. My restorative classes give students the opportunity to recognize and learn to regulate their nervous systems.
I offer variations and space so students can choose for themselves what is best in any given breath. All classes are designed for students to feel integrated at the end.
