The Art of the Class: A Teacher Mentorship and Study Group
with Daniel Max and Einat Peled-Katz

This program is designed to support yoga teacher training graduates. The intent of this study group is to develop your teaching skills and to bring yoga teachers together in a community setting. As fulfilling as teaching yoga can be, many of us find ourselves flying solo with few opportunities to receive feedback or to connect with other yoga teachers about our teaching experiences.

Our work will predominantly center around seeing and responding to what you see through choice of language and quality of touch.

Topics we will cover during mentorship are:

Clarity of Speech:

  • Refine the precision of your instructions

  • Clarify the focus of your class by sustaining a central theme throughout your sequence

  • Seamlessly weave yoga philosophy into the teaching of a postural practice

  • Heighten students’ understanding by providing cues around ‘what’, ‘why’ or ‘how’ to engage in a pose

  • Speak to what you see in real time so there is not 'script'

  • Learn how to effectively speak to a diverse group of bodies and various levels of ability in a mixed-levels class

  • Ensure that your unique voice is being received in a meaningful way

Clarity of Touch:

  • Re/introduce hands-on adjustments to your skill set

  • Gain comfort and confidence in stepping into a student’s personal space

  • Understand different types of assists and when to choose which (corrective, supportive, directional, mirroring, etc)

  • Explore different qualities of touch depending on what you hope to communicate (speaking to bones, muscles, skin, breath, etc)

  • Position your own body for maximum efficiency, injury prevention, and leverage.

  • Use your eyes, hands and ears to listen to what your student’s body is communicating

  • When teaching group classes, work with one person while still communicating to the whole room

During our time together, expect group discussion, practice teaching, and hands-on assists.
