AME WREN (she/her)
I feel incredibly lucky to have been part of the JPCY family from the beginning. My teaching has grown exponentially since the studio opened its doors in 2012 thanks to the incredible community of students and the impeccable leadership of Daniel and Sejal.
I have been a yoga practitioner for over 2 decades. At first I dabbled in all the styles I could find before settling in to study the Iyengar and Ashtanga methodologies at length. My penchant for mixing methods of yoga along with other forms of movement has led me to call myself a "yoga mutt." I see no place for dogma in yoga and far prefer to source wisdom from anywhere I can find it and offer it to students to see what sticks.
I am greatly indebted to my longtime teachers Richard Freeman & Mary Taylor for teaching me how to be in the world with more grace and compassion. I am also deeply inspired by the work of the late Michael Stone and the movement creativity of Carrie Owerko. My ongoing studies inform everything I do and keep me a curious student and humbled teacher.
In addition to yoga, I am an academic and the founder and director of Boston Yoga School. I have been featured at TEDx, in Yoga Journal and was awarded the honor of “Best of Boston” in 2010. After pursuing both undergraduate and graduate degrees in Religious Studies & Culture in Boston, I am currently working on a doctoral degree at the University of Virginia.
JPCY remains my home from afar and I return often to teach and see the community that means so much to me.
